Volunteering

"To the world you may be one person; to one person you may be the world." - Josephine Billings

Volunteer and Resident
Volunteerism is deeply rooted at Parker, beginning with our founder, Henrietta Parker, who encouraged and welcomed members of the community to help and care for the infirm individuals who resided in her home.

In addition to the caring administrations of our dedicated staff, Parker's residents and participants experience the warmth and kindness of over 200 volunteers  who provide over 7000 hours of service each year. Volunteers enhance the quality of life of our residents and participants each and every day though the sharing of talents, skills, compassion, and time.

The volunteer department is an essential part of the culture of Parker. The volunteers provide services that enhance the quality of life of our residents through activities ranging from gift shop cashier to discussion group leader. We offer opportunities for people to share their pets, musical talents, spirituality, and other hobbies, interests and gifts.

“Together with our outstanding staff and medical care, our volunteers’ kindness, dedication and spirit are an integral part of our Eden philosophy and mission to provide a home-like environment for our residents,” says Kailin Bouse, Manager of Administrative and Volunteer Services.

Volunteer Life

Our volunteers vary in age and background, from grammar school age children to retired adults who wish to support and honor our residents and participants.

Parker’s volunteer program is unique in its ability to match the needs of our residents and participants with the availability and talents of our volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities for working directly with residents include recreational activities such as:
  • Spiritual services
  • Board games
  • Creative art projects
  • Computers
  • Gardening projects
  • Music programs
  • Discussion groups, and more
Volunteer staff support positions include:
  • Filing
  • Data entry
  • Clerical work
We also welcome individuals or groups who would like to share musical or artistic talents with our residents on an occasional basis.
