It has been a tremendous benefit to our medical school to have Francis E. Parker as our neighbor. Your staff and residents have become our partners by providing educational opportunities for our first year students in the Patient-Centered Medicine course. Parker has graciously arranged a tour, presentations and opportunities for the students to gain interview skills by speaking one-on-one with residents. When they are asked for feedback on their visits to Parker, students comment on how helpful it is to see the facility, listen to the presentations and gain insights into the lives of seniors.

• “I thought the tour was great. I liked the resident panel because we got to meet people from different backgrounds.”
• “I liked interviewing the resident. It was great to talk with an elderly patient and experience the problems of actually eliciting a medical history. Also it was just great to hear about their lives.”

It was through the inspired vision of Roberto Muñiz, President of PARKER that we began our Nursing Home Administrator Certification Program over ten years ago. This invaluable program provides the foundation for our students to pursue successful careers as nursing home administrators. Francis E. Parker Home is an amazing long-term care facility. Middlesex County College has been taking nursing students to this facility to learn about long-term care for eight years. The students overwhelmingly have positive comments about the staff and the facility. Working side-by-side with the nurses and aides has given them an inside picture of Parker. The students consistently talk about how the staff is compassionate and patient, and that they treat each elder as an individual. Parker's staff greets everyone with eye contact and a smile. They approach elders in a calm manner, utilizing appropriate touch when communicating. Francis E. Parker Home is kept immaculately clean and beautifully decorated for all seasons. This facility is a wonderful place for a loved one when long-term care is necessary, and students and faculty often comment that they would not hesitate to recommend Parker.
