Parker Collaborates with Piscataway Elks to Mark Veterans Day
By Daniel Carr
On Veterans’ Day Parker, with the help of the of the Piscataway Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, #2414, hosted ceremonies at Parker at Landing Lane and Parker at River Road which honored the three dozen veterans in our homes. Each celebration started with a color guard march by the Elks and a short speech on the importance of appreciating those who have fought for our freedoms. After each ceremony dining services offered large cakes that resembled American flags and refreshments for all to enjoy.
The Piscataway Elks Lodge were enlisted by Joe Mazurek, lead cook at Parker at River Road, a former Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #2262 in Hamilton who knew that the Elks’ top priorities are supporting veterans and children with special needs.
Marie Kleeman, one of the Piscataway Elks who participated, said her father was a veteran and she greatly admires his service so she supports the armed forces however she can.
One of the Parker residents who was honored was Pat Daley, a former Army nurse 2nd lieutenant at Fort Jay in the late 1950s. Pat has lived at Parker at Landing Lane since October 2015. Pat said the Veteran’s Day event was “lovely” and that she never expected anything like it. She greatly appreciated the activity and the sentiment behind it.
Parker is proud to raise the visibility and awareness of our residents who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.
