Thanks and Giving Trees

When you enter Parker at River Road or Parker at Landing Lane skilled nursing residences, one of the first things you will notice is an impressive 7-foot evergreen tree decorated with yellow, scarlet, orange, and rust leaves. Take a closer look and you'll notice that there is writing on each leaf. A sign next to the tree lets you know that it is a "Tree of Thanks and Giving" and it invites you to list the things for which you are grateful on a blank leaf and place it on the tree.

This is the season to be thankful, to count our blessings, and to share with people who are not as fortunate as we are. Next to the Thanks and Giving Tree, you'll find a basket. We are collecting food and pantry items for Elijah's Promise, a non-profit organization. Elijah's Promise doesn't simply provide meals to hungry people - they use food as a tool for change. They fight to end hunger through promoting good food for all, providing education and job training for the food industry, and creating social enterprise food businesses that help build a better world.

We are collecting donations of fresh fruit and produce, bag lunch supplies (brown paper bags, water bottles, wheat bread or rolls), paper goods (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, plastic utensils), bulk-sized condiments, bulk canned vegetables, bulk pasta and sauces, bulk spices and herbs, sugar and coffee. Next time you shop, please buy something to donate and visit us to drop it off. Our Thanks and Giving Trees will be up until December 1st.
