Buzz and Andy's Unexpected Reunion

Buzz and Andy at Parker's Adult Day CenterTwo men sit across from each other at a table in Parker Home’s Adult Day Center. One stares at the other after spotting his first name written on the placemat.

“Your name is Andy,” said Buzz Creamer. “Is your last name Yusko?”

“Yes,” replied Andy.

“We went to school together, Andy! I’m Buzz from St. Peter’s Prep and we lived two doors away from each other on Robinson Street,” Buzz said excitedly.

“Buzz!”

The staff at Parker’s Adult Day Center was stunned by the impromptu reunion and asked for more details. Buzz and Andy knew each other in grammar school and became fast friends in high school. They described themselves as “hell raisers” who frequently snuck into Rutgers football games. They went sleigh riding on the canal before the ice was deemed thick enough to be safe. They “owned” the YMCA on weekends where they played basketball every Saturday morning.

“It was an absolute joy to see how excited Buzz was to reunite with his neighborhood friend, Andy,” said Natalie Macaro, director of Parker Home’s Adult Day Center. “The laughter, memories, and friendship the two men shared that day brought them such great happiness,” she added.

Like many of us, Buzz and Andy’s childhood friendship ended when they grew up, took jobs and married. Since their first meeting a few weeks ago, Andy’s wife brought in old photos of Buzz and Andy to share with Participants and the staff. Buzz’s wife soon remembered that Andy was one of the ushers at their wedding.

Each Friday, Buzz and Andy get together at Parker Home’s Adult Day Center and reminisce about the good old days. It’s heartwarming to see them sit together at lunch and renew their long-lost friendship. After decades apart, it was practically a miracle that the Adult Day Center brought them back together again.
